Question:

Transfer from CC in 3 years to UCLA?

I'm planning on transferring to UCLA in Fall 09 or Fall 2010. Since I'm doing a Biological Science major, I wont be able to complete all the courses before I transfer in Fall 09, so unfortunately I will have to push it back to one entire year. I hear it is common to transfer in 3 years vs. 2 years, but I'm not sure if this is a myth or a fact...

Does this mean I will be applying as a senior to UCLA? Or a junior? (if it takes 3 years)... And is it advisable to spread out my classes more so I am able to take harder classes over a longer period of time? I want to take honors classes so if I transfer in 2010 this gives me a chance to do well in my harder classes.

Also, my GPA is pretty low (3.2) but I am positive I will be able to raise it to around 3.5... Is this competitive enough for UCLA bio major? Do I stand a chance?!?! Any help is much appreciated :)!

  1. You need to have completed a minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter transferable units before you are eligible to apply for transfer.  Class standing (junior/senior) is based on the number of units you have, not how many years you have been in school.

Spread out your classes and participate in the honors program to optimize your chance of admission.

Transfer admission focuses on GPA and demonstrated interest in your field of study. So do well in school and get a job/participate in clubs/volunteer/intern in your field of study and you will be fine.
