The greatest extravaganza of world football is in full swing in South Africa as players and managers are busy prepping and plotting plans to guide their countries of the ultimate glory in football. However, back at the clubs, managers are keeping a keen eye on the star performers at South Africa 2010 and will try and charm them to the lure towards the big bucks.

Despite having the immensely talented Mesut Ozil within their ranks, the club has not even done anything worthwhile in Europe. Securing the signature of Ballack will surely bring in some much needed experience and panache to their side.

Another Chelsea reject Joe Cole has is fighting for a starting place in Fabio Capello’s side was released by the London club after the talks for a new contract came to a grinding halt over wage demands. It is understood that Cole wanted a raise in his 80000 per week salary to be matched to the likes of Terry Lamapard and company and wanted it to be in the six figure range. Arsenal and Tottenham are both trying to secure the services of the dynamic wingman, with Spurs manager having coached Cole at West Ham. He claimed openly that Spurs is the right club for Cole and he will pay any price for the player. However, he is not contracted by any club and remains a free agent.  Cole can sign for any club and with an opportunity of staying in London with both these clubs; he may have a dilemma on his hand on who to choose.

Onlz yesterday Manchester United denied publicly that they wanted to take the former Chelsea man to Old Trafford after news surfaced that Alex was lining up a move for Cole. While Arsenal are trying to court Joe Cole to the Emirates, their latest signing Maruane Chamakh of Bordeaux has urged his manager to also sign the Bordeaux and French playmaker Yuan Gourcuff. Although France failed to progress past the first round at the world cup Gourcuff showed the glimpses of what he is capable of doing and what he does at Bordeaux day in day out.

Staying with Arsenal, former Gunner Thierry Henry is all set to shun a return to premier league football and move to the United States with New York Red Bulls interested in securing his signature. Robinho, the Manchester city striker who is currently on loan at Santos in his native Brazil have expressed their desire to make his loan move permanent so that he can stay in Brazil at Santos. However, after seeing his mesmeric performances at the World Cup, where he helped Brazil cruise through the first round, Italian coach Roberto Mancini will be having seconds thought on that.

Aiden Mcgeady, the Celtic winger is in high demand these days after an impressive season with the ‘bhoys’ and Aston Villa manager is keep to take the Scott to Villa park. Liverpool are chasing wolves goal keeper Wayne Hennessy and are expected to make an improved start after the initial bid of 2 million pounds was rejected by Wolverhampton Wonderers. Staying in Liverpool, Everton are willing to sign the out-of-favour Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland. Ireland was highly impressive for Manchester City just a season ago but after the arrival of Mancini, he has fallen behind the pecking order and has made only a few appearances last season as a substitute.
