Transfer of Fabuloso a No Go
Brazil lost its hope for its sixth star on the world-renowned Canarinha jersey following their quarterfinal exit from the 2010 FIFA World Cup. But Spanish outfit Sevilla has retained one of its stars in Luis Fabiano, after the Brazilian has confirmed his decision to stay in Spain.
Earlier this week, Fabiano brushed off the advances made by Italian outfit AC Milan along with English club giants Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, but has hinted that he is looking forward to another stint with Sevilla.
Inquiries were expected, as Fabiano put on a fabulous performance for his national team, albeit a losing effort after Brazil lost to the Netherlands. Fabiano scored three goals for the Brazilian National Team.
"It is true that other clubs were interested in me but I have not held advanced negotiations with anyone. I am very happy at Sevilla and I have never said that I will be leaving for Milan or Manchester United. These are big clubs, but Sevilla are also among the best in Europe," said Fabiano.
It is being reported that Sevilla has been fidgety as of late, wondering whether their striker would leave their side, once Fabiano’s contract ends next summer. And given the number of inquiries made on Fabiano, the Brazilian may be tempted to opt out even before his contract ends.
But Sevilla can rest well. At least for now.
According to La Liga insiders, the camp of Fabiano is currently in talks with the Spanish side in an effort to come up with a contract extension that is favourable to Fabiano. The president of the club himself has been in contact with the Brazilian’s agent and is said to be on the verge of re-signing the star striker.
After a summer’s worth of speculation, Sevilla looks on its way to keep the Brazilian. Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp was one of the few managers who tried to lure Fabiano away from Sevilla but essentially shied away from making a serious offer because of the Brazilian’s hefty salary demand.
"Fabiano is a special player and a class act but I don't know what he earns. He might be on mega money, so it might prove to be impossible for us," revealed Redknapp. "To be perfectly honest, I haven't sat down to discuss any transfer targets with our chairman Daniel Levy — apart from trying to do a deal with Joe Cole.”
Tottenham Hotspur had the hots for Fabiano, but it appears that the deal has cooled off for now.
Thus, Fabiano said that he is keen to start the La Liga season with Sevilla. It is said that the Brazilian is currently preparing for a better stint, as his side eyes the Champions League.
"I am due to return to training on July 26 and I am looking forward to getting back to work.
"We have not done too well in the Champions League over recent seasons but we are set to enter the qualifiers in August and we have to make sure we give 100 per cent to make the group stage."
Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido recently confirmed that Sevilla will serve as Luis Fabiano’s home, at least until his contract expires—and that the side has absolutely no intentions of selling its star player.
As mentioned above, Del Nido is indeed having talks with Fabiano’s agent. “We are negotiating with the player for the renewal of his contract,” revealed Del Nido. “There has been no contact with Milan (or other clubs).”
Sorry, Galliani, Redknapp, and Fergie—Fabiano isn’t about to leave the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan anytime soon.
There’s always next year, guys.
