Transfer to Dortmund: Did Marco Reus make the right decision?
Borussia Monchengladbach striker, Marco Reus agreed to join Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season for an estimated fee of 17.5 million Euros. The agreement was reached between the two clubs last week and the news came as a shock to many as Bayern Munich were said to be leading the race to acquire the player.
Of all the clubs, Die Borussen were the most unlikely to slash the amount considering the acquisition of Marcio http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Amoroso-c5488 which almost led the club to bankruptcy in 2001. But the German champions have made a strong statement to Bayern Munich with the capture and are willing to spend to compete at the highest level.
The German international has had a sensational season so far with Monchengladbach and has scored a staggering 13 goals in all competitions for the Foals and his performances have been crucial in the club’s top-four standing at the end of the first-half of the season.
There was widespread speculation that Bayern Munich were the front-runners to sign the player with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge hinting of a possible summer move for the striker. But things took a U-turn when Reus elected to play for Dortmund over the Munich giants from the summer this year.
But there are still doubts among certain corners that a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904’s most successful club, Bayern Munich, would have benefitted the player more. In my opinion, the player made a great and intelligent decision to play for the Westfalenstadion outfit mainly because of some notable facts:
The ‘Klopp’ effect
The players at Borussia Dortmund would most certainly agree with the fact that Jurgen Klopp has played a crucial role in their development in the past few years. The manager has the immense potential to bring the nest out of his players and is a great motivator. Mario Gotze is a prime example; to bring the levels of maturity and the confidence in a player who is only aged 19 is a sensational achievement, no wonder he is being touted as the next big thing in German football.
The Bayern Untouchables
The Bayern squad boasts some of the best players in the world and replacing the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521, Franck Ribery and Mario Gomez would have been mighty difficult for the player. He would certainly have assessed the situation and there would have been a huge possibility that he would have warmed the benches for most of the season.
Dortmund style of play
Borussia Dortmund’s style of play definitely suits http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Reus-c23733 more as the German champions play great offensive football which mostly involves short passes. The striker is a kind of player who likes to take on players and needs freedom on the pitch.
The ‘Poldi’ example
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lukas-Podolski-c22896 situation at Bayern Munich a few years back would surely have been at the back of his mind. Podolski, who currently plays for FC Koln had a miserable time at the Allianz Arena when he joined them back in 2006. He was one of the best talents in the country at that time at a very young age but he failed to live up to the huge expectations at the club and was consequently bought back by Koln in 2009.
All in all, the above mentioned factors could have influenced the player to opt for the club that has less competition for places and a comparatively less star studded squad.
