Hi guys, I hope I can ask for some advise. My company is soon to transfer me to P.R. I'm an Irish guy in late 20's. Looks like i'll be based in San Juan. I've been trying to search for any expat forums on the web as I want to be able to get advice on living in P.R and hopefully benefit from other peoples experiences and get advice etc but these seen to be fairly thin on the ground. I'm going to be the only guy from my company on the island so will essentially be left to my own devices in terms of sorting my accomodation etc. Can anybody help with this?

  2. You can also visit www.clasificadosonline.com for housing.

  3. Boy, I wish you could be a bit more specific.  Once you know for sure, then post again and be specific... there are a lot of very nice people to help you here.

I don't know what your interests are... Old San Juan is a very atmospheric and expensive place to live... there are some really NICE high rise apartment buildings with views of the Ocean that East Coast people trudging in show would KILL for...

I assume you already speak Spanish... if you don't.. then LEARN IT and do it before you get there.

Enjoy... it's a great opportunity for a young guy.

  4. Hi .. Im actually living in Puerto Rico right now in the south area in the city of Ponce but San Juan is a great cool place ... you will love my island .. is beautiful .. Im guessing ur a bit nervous with this whole thing but  what I would recommend you to do is to go to this website : http://www.clasificadosonline.com and go to the RENTAL ads and try to find something in the San Juan area .... you might not find the perfect spot right away since this always takes some time but u can at least look at some places and then ask for more specific details on here again to see what ppl from the area can tell you about the places you pick for ur final decision.  I would also recommend this website: http://www.gotopuertorico.com ... in this site you can find all the tourism info, etc about the island and another site that I consider might be really helpful is this one here : http://welcome.topuertorico.org/index.sh... .. here you can visit all the links that have important information but especially the one that says "Explore Puerto Rico" .. I use that one everytime!!!

Hope this helps .. any questions .. just ask me ! =o)

    GOOD LUCK !!!

  5. You would love Puerto Rico!  Lots to see and do on your spare time.  I would suggest you go online and search for long term apartment rentals.  You may not find the ideal apartment in the beginning however it will allow you to become familiar with San Juan and meet ppl that maybe able to help you to step 2.  Here are 2 sites to get your started.  Hope this helps

  6. Wow how fantastic.  I wish I could help with accommo info.  I just wanted to say I went to Puerto Rico for a cruise around the carribbean-what a beautiful part of the world.  We stayed at San Juan also for a week, near the beach-I was surprised how modern San Juan is-I thought it would be a backward place!  It was over 10 years ago so I don't remember all the details but it was cheap to eat there too with fabulous food and a huge variety of restaurants.  We loved old San Juan, a different area, with its cobblestone streets and shops in the alleyways.  Loved it.  Enjoy your time there and I'm sure you will get more helpful advice.

  7. You have many Americans in the San Juan area and I am sure you will meet many that will share with you the tips, the do's and dont's. If you are the "after hour" type a person, befriending a bar tender will be ideal.
