Transfer video files to my PSP not working?

Question

i transferred the video file onto my psp folder when it popped up using a usb cable. and it loaded on there and everything and it was complete. so i disconnected my psp. but then i look on there and its not there? so i dont know whats goin on. does it have to be mp4..it was an mpg.
