Question:

Transfering Videos from Camcorder to Computer- No Sound?

I have a Sony Handycam, model DCR-HC26. I've installed the program that comes with the camcorder (Picture Package v1.5.1) , and I am now trying to get videos off my cam to the computer. I am using the Video Capturing tool. the video is there, but there is no sound. As it is "capturing," sound does come out. But when I look at it later, there is none. Speakers are up, no mute. Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks

  1. Stop using USB and use Firewire. If your computer does not have a firewire port, install one - easy if you have an available PCI slot (desktop) or PCMCIA port (laptop).

Your camera is miniDV tape based. You need to use the DV port and connect a firewire cable (was not included in the box) and connect to the firewire port on your computer. The most common firewire cable for this is 4-pin to 6-pin.

Firewire, IEEE1394 and i.Link are all the same thing.

  2. Don't use Picture Package either. Spend $20 and buy Nero 6 on ebay (for capturing, writiing dvds). Make sure you capture compressed avi, not mpg, mpg is iffy as far as capturing sound.
