Question:

Transfering from JFK to Newark International - time enough???

We will arrive at JFK (on a Thursday) at 9:35 am and must be at Newark International at 12:30, on time to catch another plane to Alaska. Is there enough time to make it? What would be the fastest way to make it? (helicopter is out for the high price). Thank you for your help.

  1. jfk isn't that far from newark because it's in nyc and newark is right across the river from nyc because i've been to newark airport and could see the empire state building from my gate. traffic is very bad but you should be able ot make it if your fast enough by taking a taxi or bus.

  2. Here you go: it's a 90 minute trip (on a good day)

The rest of this was my opinion before I searched.

That will be pretty tight, if not impossible.

Don't forget that it takes a while to get your bags,

and you're supposed to be at Newark well ahead

of your departure time.  (If 12:30 is already

2 hours before departure, that will help.)

And if your first plane is late, you can pretty much forget it.

There are two routes: through Manhattan or around it on the Narrows Verrazano Bridge, which is longer, but may be faster.

There MIGHT be a direct connection, airport-to-airport,

but if you have to go into Manhattan, allow at least an

hour for each leg (JFK-city, city-EWR).  Of course, you could take a taxi from one airport to the other.

From both airports, there are buses to the Port Authority Terminal in midtown Manhattan.  There are also trains to Newark Airport from Penn Station.
