Transfering music files from my pc to my tom tom...

Question

bought the sat nav system and want to use the mp3 player on it however it only has icon for Ipod, took it back to store told it will support mp3 just save music to sd card which i purchased I transferd to sat nav however still will not recognize music on card. will this system only recognize itunes.
