Transfering vector image to gimp?

Im new to all this. What im trying to do is turn this logo for a business to a vector image with inkscape which i think i did; and now im trying to transfer it gimp to create a banner for the top part of a web site. I cant seem to transfer the image to gimp is it possible. and advice appreciate it .

For the latest version of GIMP, you just go to menu, file, open, select the svg produced by inkscape, make sure to check at least import paths or merge paths click open,
