Transferring Mini DV to a computer Help needed.?

My friends and I have a show that we record on local access on a mini dv format. However when it comes to editing the show my friend who edits it transfers the tape onto his computer using my camcorder. While this process works fantastically it does mean that my camcorder is constantly at his house and I never get to use and I'm the one who payed for the d**n thing. Is there an accessory that we could buy that will transfer the tape to the computer so that I can use my camcorder and not have to keep it at his house all the time?

  1. Yes, but MiniDV tape decks cost more than the camcorders!  Your best option is probably to buy a cheap camcorder.

  2. No! It is not necessary for the miniDVcam to be at ur friends constantly. This is how it works:

    - the vcam records the video to the DVtape

    - It is then connected by firewire to the pc and the video stream from the vcam is captured thru a video editing app.. If the lenght of your recorded video is 1 hr, then it would also take an hour to capture the video... and that's all.

    - editing of the captured video (now already stored in the pc folder) can now proceed w/o the vcam.
