Transferring a program from one computer to another?

I have a game on my laptop that I would like to have on my desktop. The game does not require a disk to be played, and it's relatively old so the disk is gone anyways. Is there any way that I can transfer/copy the program from my laptop and put it on this computer? Thanks in advance.

  1. Just copy the complete folder of that game and transfer it to your desktop.

  2. What game and version is it? Some games that were made in the 80's and early 90's (DOS type or console games) examples: kings quest, defender, pac man...have the ability to be simply copied to a diskette or cd and then be transfered as is to another machine. You would only need to create a shortcut to play it. On the otherhand you could always find the program directory probably c:\(program dir) or c:\program files\(program dir) then copy it on to a cd and go for it..

  3. the question is... Is your game a self-contained program?  or was it installed on your computer?  If it is self contained, you can move it easily with a USB stick.  If it was installed, that's a little more trouble.  You are going to need to find some backup program, to find all the parts scattered amongst your computer to put the pieces back into a "package" that you can move and re-install it on the new computer... Depending on the game,  It may not be possible.

  4. If the game is installed you need the setup (.exe) file. Look up control panel or your registry and see if its installed. If its not installed you can use a CD, flash drive.. If it is installation type, try searching for the exe file.. its old so probably a self contained program.

  5. You could use a flash drive like SanDisk Cruzer Micro with U3 technology. It's very easy to use to transfer files & programs.
