Question:

Transferring car title from dad to son...?

My dad lives in Pennsylvania. I go to school in Georgia. He and I'd like to transfer my car title from his name (PA tag) to mine (GA tag) so I don't have to drive the car up every year for inspection/registration. How exactly do I go about doing this and is this going to cost anything?

Thanks.

  1. You are going to have to pay for title transfer and registration, where it says purchase price, put gift from father so you won't have to pay sales tax. You will need the title, go to a tag office or motor vehicle agency in GA and tell them what you want to do.

  2. You'll have to go to the tag agency and fill out some forms. It's pretty easy. He'll have to sign it over to you, then you should get the new title in the mail.

You can transfer titles from parent to child for no fee, but brother to sister, etc - they do charge.

  3. he signs title under seller name you signb under buyers name you take it to the dmv and have it put in your name
