Transferring colleges with a 3.37 GPA, opinions?

I am transferring colleges with a 3.37 college GPA. The colleges/universities I would like to attend are in the N.E. of the U.S. and some are private and some are public. On the college websites, the GPA's that are above par or at marginal GPA are only listed as an incomin freshman, not a transferee. Please advise me if this 3.37 GPA is an average transfer GPA. Thanks!

  1. It totally depends on the college you want to apply to. And the strengh of the 3.4 GPA you bring depends on the college you earned it at. So a 3.4 from Harvard or Amherst is a very different thing than a 3.4 from a community college or 3rd tier state school.

Looking at what it takes for a freshman t get in will give you a good idea of how selective a school will be for transfers. Most private colleges also look at transfer's SAT scores, so looking at what freshman admits needed will also help.

Your GPA would be at least average at the majority of colleges and only below average at colleges ranked in about the top 100.

  2. As far as I am aware your GPA (assuming it's based on the 4.0 scale) is above average to transfer to. Most degrees require you to have a 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) to graduate so that is usually what is accepted. I would check with the college you are transferring into and find out what your GPA needs to be to graduate from their program and go from there.

  3. Very high GPA.
