Energy is transferred in many ways. In a circuit, energy is flowing through wires, but some of this energy is lost? That is because some is transferred into heat energy, making your wires and light bulb hot, and the light bulb! That is transferred energy as well, from kinetic to light! So usually your energy is transferred through direct contact. There are many kinds of energy, when you hold a ball in your hand, the ball has potential energy, when dropped the energy now changes into kinetic, which is moving energy.

the sun puts energy into food  , you use the food to sustain your being.   the energy  in gas is used to heat  water   .  basicly the sun is the source of all energy.   you can hit a bell with a hammer  thus  transferring  the energy contained  in the motion of the hammer into sound energy.   the vibrating bell  pushes air molecules.
