Transferring ringtones from samsung to lg?

My samsung blackjack broke but I saved all my ringtones on my memory stick. I got an LG shine and the ringtones on the LG have a question mark icon next to them and they do not work. I can't do anything with them. However my actual MP3s are recognized and I can listen to them. Why won't the ringtones work and is there anyway to get them to work on the LG. Would changing the format of the ringtones on the computer into actual MP3s work?
