Transferring video through firewire?

my cam corder didnt come with a software disk but had a firewire cable. i made a video, plugged it in, and it didnt come up with the options as usual, it did nothing. then, when i went into windows movie maker and asked to capture from a video device it says that it cant do it because there was a problem starting the device. what does this mean? please help, this video is very important! how can i get the video onto the pc and onto movie maker? it isnt being recognised?

  1. you most likely need to put the camcorder into VCR or VTR mode so that the computer can recognize it.


  2. Try this :-

    Go into Device Manager (Control Panel / System / Hardware)

    Expand the IEEE1394 Bus host controllers, right click on your  device and uninstall it.  If it's not there to start with, you've got a problem!

    Shut down your PC.

    Connect the camcorder, switch it to play and reboot your PC.  You should see messages coming up as the card and then the camcorder are detected.
