  1. Hey,

    Is this a real question...i am guessing your in calc 3, but this is not the form of ANY coordinate system.

    cylindrical coordinates :

    x =rcos(theta)

    y =rsin(theta)

    z = z

    x^2 + y^2 = r^2

    use those and you'll be able to work it out

  2. ok .. . . i dont understand what you wrote on the first part ...

    but if you want to transform the point B(3, 4, 6) into cylindrical

    well.. . .. . (x,y,z) = (3 , 4 , 6)

    you want ... (r, θ, z)

    thus the last component is still 6.

    r^2 = x^2 + y^2 = 3^2 + 4^2 = 25

    thus

    r = 25

    x = r cosθ then 3 = 5 cosθ

    thus

    θ = cos^(-1)(3/5)

    thus the cylindrical coordinate is:

    (5 , cos^(-1)(3/5) , 6)
