why does supercoiled plasmid gets transformed into a bacterial host faster than a linear plasmid?

  1. Linear DNA cannot be transformed because exonucleases (nucleases that degrade DNA from the 5' or 3' ends) rapidly degrade the DNA. However, in many cases, relaxed, nicked plasmids are better at being transformed than supercoiled plasmids.
