Transformers: Fall of Cybertron pushed forward – Video Games Update
High Moon Studios, the developer for Transformers games, has announced that they have completed Fall of Cybertron and can’t wait to get the game in the hands of gamers.
High Moon Studios was once part of Sierra, but was acquired by Vivendi Games in 2006. The studio is now owned by Activision after Vivendi acquired Activision Blizzard.
The company was behind the game Darkwatch for Playstation 2 and the original Xbox. The game was published by Capcom and received above average reviews. A sequel was planned for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 but the project was scrapped.
High Moon Studios’ first game for Activision was Transformers: War for Cybertron which was released for the PC, Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 on June 22, 2010. The game was a breath of fresh air for Transformers fans that had to put up with sub-par movie
tie-in Transformers games before this one.
War for Cybertron, was a third person action shooter with some driving and jet flying sections. It was developed on the Unreal Engine 3 and was received positively at launch by gamers and critics. The game averages at 78 percent on Metacritic.
After the success of War for Cybertron, Activision announced that High Moon Studios will be developing future Transformer games for the publishing giant. The studios’ second Transformers game, Transformers: Dark side of the moon, which was a movie tie-in,
did not fare as well as its predecessor.
The second game felt like a rush job and probably was one since it had to be launched alongside the movie. Since it was a movie tie-in it was released on every platform available. The game was criticised for being too short and for having a lot of bugs and
glitches. Gamers thought that the game could’ve done much better with some extra polish.
Now High Moon Studios is set to release their third Transformers game which, from the trailers released so far, is looking pretty good. High Moon Studios pushing forward the release date is concerning for some fans as Activision is known for forcing its
developers to release games early which leads to unhappy gamers.
Gamers will have to wait till August 21, 2012 to find out if it lives up to the hype and if High Moon Studios has used the extra time to add more polish to the game.
