I am transgender MTF and now that I am 18 I want to see a doctor about possible hormones and other treatments. My question is- Am I legally old enough to do this on my own, and what type of doctor am I looking for? Specifically a name if possible. Location is Omaha, NE area.

  1. Yes, anyone 18 or older can do whatever they want in the USA.  However, most endocrinologists require a letter of referral from a therapist:

For others: Per the Standards of Care (SOC) hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can start at age 16 with parental support and puberty "blockers" even earlier.

The one problem I see is you may have trouble finding qualified professionals in your area.  I've got some helpful links for you:

    http://www.LynnConway.com  Exhaustive information about transsexualism.

    http://www.TSRoadmap.com  Help planning your transition

http://www.TrueSelves.com  On-line support group for younger transitioners.

http://www.WPATH.org  Downlaod a copy of the SOC here and become familiar with them.

    Good Luck!

  2. Yes

You are looking for  an endocrinologist. They specialize in hormones. You would need a transgender friendly one. I am not familiar with Omaha, so you would have to ask local transgender people. There should be a support group in your area. People there would know the best Dr. for you
