  1. Transgenic Organism

Plant, animal, bacterium, or other living organism that has had a foreign gene added to it by means of genetic engineering. In terms of laboratory research, transgenic manipulations of organisms have become well-established scientific procedures which are finding progressively more applications in the health and food industries

    Transgenic plants:

Kenyans examining insect-resistant transgenic Bt corn.Transgenic plants have been developed for various purposes: resistance to pests, herbicides or harsh environmental conditions; improved shelflife; increased nutritional value - and many more. Since the first commercial cultivation of GM plants in 1996, GM plant events tolerant to the herbicides glufosinate or glyphosate and events producing the Bt toxin, an insecticide, have dominated the market. Recently, a new generation of GM plants promising benefits for consumers and industry purposes is becoming ready to enter the markets.

Since GM plants are grown on open fields, there is often a perception that there could be associated environmental risks. Therefore, most countries require biosafety studies prior to the approval of a new GM plant event, usually followed by a monitoring programme to detect environmental impacts.

Especially in Europe, the coexistence of GM plants with conventional and organic crops has raised many concerns. Since there is separate legislation for GM crops and a high demand from consumers for the freedom of choice between GM and non-GM foods, measures are required to separate GM, conventional and organic plants and derived food and feed. European research programmes such as Co-Extra, Transcontainer and SIGMEA are investigating appropriate tools and rules. On the field level, these are biological containment methods, isolation distances and pollen barriers.

can transgenic organism breed or reproduce like normal organism??YES

can transgenic organism breed with a normal organism?

    THE ANSWER IS AGAIN.............YES

  2. yes they can breed and reproduce easily like normal organism but they have trait that the normal organism cant have this trait buy sexual reproduction

  3. It depends on the nature of the genetic manipulation.

  4. The answer to both questions is yes. In transgenic organisms only a tiny portion of the transfer chromosome (preferbably only one gene for the character wanted). This will not effect the animal/plants ability to reproduce or breed with normal organisms. In fact the future of transgenic breeding depends on the ability of the transgenic organism to be able to pass this character on to future generations. Without that it would be a dead end experiment.

  5. Yes and yes...in most cases... Depending on what genes are added to the organism in question of course, some might interfere with procreation. They will not always pass on the transgenic trait(s) on though. Furthermore, transgenic animals are kept strictly in laboratories and transgenic plants are a rarity in the field as well.
