Transiting in Ireland to USA?

I'm going to transit in either Dublin and Shannon. I have a connecting flight to New York-JFK. I heard that I have to pre-clear US Immigration there. But do I have to clear Ireland Immigration and Customs as well? And if so, does it mean I need an Ireland Transit Visa?

  1. From the Irish Embassy Website:

TRANSIT VISAS ARE REQUIRED BY CITIZENS OF THE FOLLOWING:

AFGHANISTAN, ALBANIA, BULGARIA, CUBA, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO, ETHIOPIA, ERITREA, YUGOSLAVIA/SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO, GHANA, IRAN, IRAQ, LEBANON, MOLDOVA, NIGERIA, ROMANIA, SOMALIA, SRI LANKA, ZIMBABWE.

  2. What nationality do u have ?

For an normal us citizen a transit visa for ireland is not required, for EU-members neither.

Check with your travel agent or airline . When you are travelling with 2 tickets  then u have to present both tickets at the check in, otherwise you have to pick up yr bags in ireland and check them in again, which will cost u a lot of time.

  3. You want to know what the extent of clearing Irish immigration is like?..they hand you out a little green form that asks for your name your address and what your business is in Ireland..then you hand it to the police in Immigration they glance at it and say welcome to Ireland...you wont need any sort of visa for only stopping over in Ireland..youl be staying in the airport the whole time which is international ground!all you need is your **** for american immigration!
