Transition to law enforcement??

Hey guys, I am 24 yrs old, been in the fire service since I was 18 (volunteer, then career), have a fire science degree, a bunch of certifications, and 2 years career in my department. Well I did a ride along with my best friend who's a Police Officer.. and ever since then I was thinking about making a career change to a Police Officer. Never had experience in that field, but of course do have public safety experience. I put in a few applications to PDs around the state (Florida).

Is this a good idea?? Will the transition be a difficult one? Also, having NO experience in law enforcement, will that hurt my chances??

  1. If it is not cost prohibitive you would do well to enroll in some Administration of justice courses at your local college and if possible sign up for a private academy for training, both physical and mental endurance are some very important aspects of a career in law enforcement, most departments will send you for further training but if you have some prior to being hired it will be a plus for advancement.~
