My daughter just turned one, and will not have anything to do with a sippy cup. Her older brother had no problem switching, but she refuses. Anybody know what I can try besides cold turkey? I can't just let her scream like a banshee.....Help?

  1. My son had the same problem.  I would try starting out with giving it to her once a day.  Don't start out during high comfort times, like time for a nap or bed.  When she is upset about you offering it, don't give into the bottle for that feeding.  If she is thirsty she will drink.  Do give lots of praise when she dose try it.

  2. i go my son one of the sippy cups that are made something like a bottle(with the soft mushy spout) it worked great for my son.

  3. my sons' never took to the sippy cups with spouts but did take right away to the ones with straws. try those maybe she'll catch on.

  4. i indroduced my daughter to the cup around that age, well actually dad did it. i seemed no matter what dad showed her, she caught onto within minutes. We also tought her how to suck out of a straw prior to the cup, so the may have helped.

all dad did was sit beside her and said watch me, and showed her how it worked (the cup and the straw) he made to noises loud, and also showed what to do with out the cup in her mouth...

with in a two minute period she was drinking out of it and never quit.

some kids are different and take longer to learn, so be patient with her
