Transitioning from the Army.....Need your input?

OK so I am currently enlisted and would like a change. I am an MP and have deployed to Iraq. Where I received a purple heart and I am currently an E-4 but looking to have my 5 in a couple months. I ETS in early 2010.

I'm just looking for some input on career choices. I have been considering the border patrol lately. Anybody out there went from Army to BP as an MP?

I have also been considering the coast guard. What will it be like for me going from the Army as an (soon to be ) E-5 to the coast guard? I'm guessing I will lose the E-5.

I could always stay in school, But anybody from the military knows that sitting through a class listening to your liberal prof. talk about whatever the h**l they want, while Joe college with his collar popped beside you is texting on his iphone...just isn't for me... I wouldn't mind completing an online degree. Anybody with experience in online schools? If I continued school. I think I would possibly go into education. I think there are programs out there to help military get into education. Anybody know?

I guess right now I'm just taking input from all kind and types..

If you have even been in this position where you know that a career in the Army just isn't for you... but you don't know exactly what is..tell me your story give me some input.

OK well thanks for reading this!

  1. I enlisted in '96 right out of high school. Right now I have 8 years service and I'm an E-5.

I had the same dilemma in 2000. And you're right, the Army isn't for everyone. But every job I had w/ civilians drove me crazy. Going to school lasted a few semesters but you're right again about pinko profs and slack jawed classmates. The only answer is see what works for you. Joining back up is the best thing I did since 2000.

    Good luck

  2. Hey guy, first and foremost thanks for doing what you are doin, been there and got through it after rocky times.

Go to school, ignore the speccy tw@t next to you and get your ed, again I had to do that, your experience will shine through and make you not only a better worker but a better human, you have seen the elephant!!!!!!!
