Question:

Translation into German?

I am trying to work out if there is a translation for couch potato into german. It would be great if it could retain the potato part, but if not are there any other uses where someone is figuratively a potato.

Thanks

P.S. I make it a policy to give a best answer as long as there is at least one reply.

  1. The German term for couch potato is:

    der Stubenhocker (male)

    die Stubenhockerin (female)

sometimes people use the English term, or a mix between English and German:

die Couchpotato / die Couchkartoffel (male+female)

but this is not good German and sounds quite ridiculous, like most of this so-called "Denglisch"

  2. couch potato=Couchkartoffel

  3. Couchkartoffel

I found it on this site that I use to translate all the time. If you have a reason to translate this website is superb...
