Transmission Question on a 2006 Ford Explorer.?

I just bought a 2006 Ford explorer last month. It is a 2X, 4.0 Liter V-6. It started shifting rough & slow on changing gears, has 39K miles. The dealer had told me it had a 60K or 5 year power train warranty on it. Turns out that was wrong depends on when in 2006 it was made, so it's out of warranty. The dealer, in another town paid to have the transmission flushed at a local dealer. Now he is offering me a extended warranty on the power train at his cost, to make good. It's shifting a whole lot better, so I don't know if I need the warranty ($619.00 for an extra 36K or 3yrs power train warranty). My question is does anyone know how sound that transmission is? Sound I get the extended warranty or will this transmission last 100K+?

  1. well i have never heard of any problems like that out of a ford transmisssion with that low of miles it may have had a rough life before you purchased ti.. i would deff. purchase the warranty because if not it could cost you major bucks in the long run to replace the entire transmission.. so yes i would go ahead with the warranty.. no transmission usually gives people problems at 39K unless they have been abused or were a lemon from factory.. good luck..

  2. anything with low miles like that should not have trans problems.

$619 beats $1600 in cost any day

I would definately buy the warranty because it is a Ford also know as mechanics nightmare!!!

and it's true when I have a nightmare about a car I've worked on it is a Ford!!
