Question:

Transplanted Roses Wilting?

We redid our entire front garden and had to dig out two rose bushes and replant them. They were very healthy and full of roses and now all the roses are hanging wilted and it's not picking up. Are they destined to die or should they pick back up and recover eventually?

  1. One year the gas company had to dig some ditches and they dug up my beautiful yellow hybrid tea rose which was full of flowers, and then replanted it several hours later.  Every flower died, and it did not flower again that season.  The following year, it came back to life like nothing had happened.  So, it is possible you might have to wait until next year.

  2. They will recover eventually they are wilting because they were taken out from there home and now they are in shock and they have to restablish their roots! It's just like if you moved away far away and you were kind of home sick because that was your home that you were in for so long and once you recover you would have spreaded your roots! Don't worry my dear by fall it should be alot better it is because it's roots aren't established so that is why it is in shock but onces it's roots are spread out in the ground it will be happy and will keep growing on!!! Have a good day!!!

  3. transplant shock... you can clip off the flowers, they won't recover... the plant will and will bloom again a little later.... keep the soil moist so the new roots have a nice soft growing medium.... it may drop a few leaves, too... once you see new sprouts, then give it some balanced fertilizer....all the same numbers, like 5-5-5...... NEXT year, give it bloom food in spring and again in summer....for now, just give it time to make itself comfy in the new spot.....

  4. Give it a time. Obviously the roots were so much affected.

Try to trim or prune it back, leaving only few leaves in branches. Cover it from sun, wind or extreme cold and dont forget to water it good. Put some bonemeal or hoofs & horn powder around the base. I had the same experience and it grew back and performing well now. Good luck.
