Transportation from Madurai to Rameshwaram?

I, alongwith my family members will be in Madurai on 9-10-2008. In the night I want to go Rameshwaram by train or bus. Which will be safer, cheap and comfortable for me. Also tell me time in journey and fair etc.

The train route is Rameshwaram express which leaves Madurai at 1.50 am and arrives Rameshwaram at 5.15 am. The distance of 115 kms.

you will have to create an account and usually booking can be done when the booking counters are open in India (i.e. between 7 am and 10 pm).

You can also hire a car and travel by road; it will be at your pleasure and the distance will be covered in about 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending on the road conditions and weather.
