I will be staying at a hotel by the Colosseum in Rome. What I am wondering is the best way to get to the Olympic Stadium for an evening event from that area.

  1. Taxi

  2. This is not easy to do. I was in Rome in April, staying near the train station, and some of our group went to Olympic for an evening soccer game. It was easy enough to get there as the hotel called taxis but getting back was quite an odyssey.

The metro in Rome closes at 9 a.m., so this isn't an option for return for even part of the trip. My understanding is there is no direct bus from the historic center of Rome to the stadium...although depending on the event you are attending they may make shuttles available (they do this in Florence, where I live, but I don't know about Rome). If you let us know what event you are attending I could check on it for you, otherwise, your hotel may be able to help.

The simplest answer seems to be taxi but this isn't as simple as it sounds. Our group had trouble getting a taxi, partly because it was Saturday night and partly because taxis don't want to be dispatched to some corner somewhere and then not have anyone waiting for their fare. If you can get to a taxi stand you might have better luck -- most of them are on the other side of the rive from the stadium, toward the downtown.

My recommendation to you if you can afford it would be to hire a car and driver. Then you know you've got a ride. Otherwise keep the taxi's telephone number and a map mark with cab stands with you and hope for the best.

  3. yes, it is not near neither easy to go from Colosseum to the stadium. In this period they are doing works on A line underground so it runs only until 9 p.m. But there is a bus line (M1) that makes the same stops as the A line. So I suggest you can take the bus 32 just outside the stadium, near the Tiber, get off near Ottaviano underground station (about 5 stops), then take the M1 to Termini Station and then the B line underground to the Colosseum.

    Anyway have a nice stay..
