Not to be silly or anything, but I'm wondering - Boy gets expelled from public school and has to go to bad kid school, which is 45-minute drive from his home. Let me guess, the mom or dad have to drive him every day ??

  1. if they have to go there the school dist must supply transportation

  2. Right now that seems to be the case. Punish the parent for the child's transgressions. If you can handle it, home school till they are allowed back into regular school. If not, see if you can work out a car pool with other parents. I feel that the school district should provide transportation to ensure that your child gets an education but you will have to convince the school board to approve the added expense. By making it so difficult to get your child to school it's almost like they are throwing him away as not worth the trouble to educate. If your school district has mandatory busing for desegration, see if they provide transportation for those children if they get expelled. Then you might have a good case to equal treatment.

  3. Usually the school district is supposed to offer transportation, at least here in the state of Florida that is.

Parents are ultimately responsible for their child's behavior. However, I don't believe causing more hassles for the family by having to transport is appropriate punishment. If they are already struggling financially, this can only make this worse. Often the 45 minutes is at the beginning and ending of the work day, which will cause absence and tardiness or having to leave work early.

As the saying goes, you reap what you sow. They will get tons of punishment by having constant issues with their children. The sad part is that the children are also being punished.

  4. I don't know. Riding the bus in a privilege not a right. It's the parent's responsibility to see that their kids are in school. It's their responsibility to make sure they behave in school.

I'm sorry it's a 45 minute drive, but whose job is it to make the child behave?  When you have kids, it's no longer about you and your needs, it's about your kids. If you can't take the time to make him behave, why did you have him, in the first place?

I have a child with special needs. I have given a lot to meet her needs...I've lost friends, so-called, given up working, b/c I'd be out of work, more than at work and material things are a joke, I don't have any. I don't resent her for this. I'm grateful to have her. She teaches me what's important in life. People.

I'm tired of hearing people blame society and everyone but the parents when kids run amuck! Be responsible for your kids. If they don't behave, take the computer, tv, and cellphone away for a WEEK!!! I watch my neighbor's kids who look to be about 2-4 years old run back and forth across my street all the time with no one watching them... no adult outside even... they don't look before crossing. They just run, but what will the parents say when the kid gets run over?  My poor innocent baby!!! A bad driver ran you down. Not so, my friend, no so. You let that innocent baby run across that street without supervisor of any kind and you want a scapegoat for your loss.

  5. If the child was expelled from one school and forced to another within the district by the district then they should provide tranpsortation unless the child was suspsended from activities while riding on the bus.
