Trappe Shot would likely prefer Grade $1.5 million Sprint over Breeders’ Cup Mile
Like many other Breeders’ Cup candidates, 4-year-old colt Trappe Shot has also cross entered in two Breeders’ Cup races. Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin has entered the son of Tapit in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint and the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile. Both races
are on 5 November at Churchill Downs.
Out of Shopping by Private Account, Trappe Shot has been consistently running over at six furlongs, and his last 4 races have been at about the same distance, so by the looks of things Trappe Shot is a possible for the Grade 1, $1.5 million Breeders’ Cup
Sprint.
Initially the list for the Sprint carried eleven names on 26 October, and Trappe Shot wasn’t in the list, but due to a clerical error Trappe Shot’s name was omitted from the field.
Trappe Shot was entered in the Dirt Mile and due to a clerical error, his second preference in the Sprint was not listed,” said Dora Delgado. “This was done well before the pre-entry deadline so the trainer had filed the appropriate paperwork.”
Dora Delgado is the senior vice president of racing and nominations for the Breeders’ Cup.
Mill House’s Trappe Shot is coming off a 4th place finish in the Grade 1 Vosburgh Invitational at Belmont Park on 1 October, 2011, as Giant Ryan, the winner, ceased the opportunity to down Force Freeze and Caixa Eletronica with the winning time
of 1 minute and 9.10 seconds.
In the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, run over at six furlongs on dirt, Trappe Shot will face more or less the same opponents he has faced in his last 4 outings.
The 2010 winner of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, Big Drama will be contesting for a double as well as Giant Ryan coming off a win in a massive race will also be the one to look out.
Force Freeze has been there and thereabouts so has Jackson Bend, Caleb’s Posse nosed out Uncle Mo to bag the King’s Bishop.
The Factor is suited for the distance and he will make the even dozen lineup a very good one, and not to mention Apriority and Amazombie, who have been doing very well this season as well.
