Question:

Travel Adapters etc.

I'm going to Japan in September and I have some concerns about travel power adapters etc.

First of all, I know that I have to get a power adapter so that my Australian power plugs can fit into Japanese power points.

The thing I'm worried about is about the voltage. Australia is 240V while Japan uses 110V. Will I need to buy any sort of voltage converter?

The main products I'll be taking are:

Mobile Phone

iPod

Digital Camera

The mobile phone isn't such a worry, as you can get those portable chargers that you use AA Batteries to charge your phone. So mainly it's the iPod and Digital Camera.

So, can anyone help? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  1. You will need a plug adapter, since the Japanese plugs looks like that

Before bying a power converter, you should read the manuals of your iPod and Digital camera. They often have power switch or can operate on both 230 and 110 volts.

For charging your mobile phone, you can use your charger in Japan, too. It will just take the double amount of time.

  2. many chargers accept for these items have an input voltage range of 110-240volts, check the chargers you'll be using. It should be written on them as input voltage. If your unlucky and a couple don't, there are many ebay sellers who have chargers for these items especially the (ipod and phone) to suit other countries. especially the stores in hong kong (i don't like purchasing from these stores either but they're cheap and sometimes the only option).

    hope this helps

  3. You should be able to buy chargers for your camera and ipod in Japan. But if you dont want to risk damaging your ipod leave it a home.

  4. no worries, all is 110 v.n even if u need to buy some extra stuff here, there are lots of cheap department stores.hope u will have a good time here.

  5. Most chargers these days accept 110-240V. It will be written on the charger itself. You will need a plug adaptor.
