Hi I am interested in becoming a travel agent in New Zealand. I am looking to do a corresspodance course to gain some extra skills. I would like to know, if this job pays well, and if my travel experience is enough to get me into the industry? I have travelled to Australia, Bali, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. Do you think this is enough to get a foot in the door?

  1. yea

  2. Most staff in Travel Agencies in New Zealand have relevant qualifications. Their most important requisite however is sales ability. Experience in travelling is always an asset of course but they look first and foremost for  the type of personality that can promote and sell.

  3. 'frantic' hit the nail on the head!

... I will also add ... take a look at the Flight Centre and House of Travel, two big travel agents in NZ - they have job info online:

  4. I think House Of Travel is the top travel Agent in NZ..and yes, you do need to do a correspondence course or the hands on travel course - which is meant to be fantastic!  From what I've heard;  if you are a guy and have sales experience, you will have no trouble getting a job in the industry as there are a shortage of guys -also if you are good at sales and have great people skills you will do really well.  I think at the end of the day..it's all about a can do attitude...go for it!
