What are the options of travel between Cambodia and Thailand. Will probably be in Siem Riep or Phenom Pehn and going to Phuket or Bangkok. Cost and time?

  1. We flew from BKK to Cambodia and planned to take the bus back so we could see the countryside. BAD CHOICE !   Next to nothing to see along the road.  The bus broke down and after it was fixed we reached a river where the bridge had collapsed.  We waded across and hitched a ride on the back of a pickup truck. Packed in with 16 other people we made the 4 hour trip to the Thai border over the dusty dirt road others have mentioned. By the end of the trip you couldn't tell who was Cambodian, we were all the same dirt color. We only had to pay $2 for the ride and we all had a good laugh about it.

  2. I can only speak from experience about traveling from Siem Reap to Bangkok. You have two choices: go rather cheaply by bus or taxi for about six hours over the worst, most horrible rutted road in existence, or spend $150 for a 45-minute one-way flight. (Renting a taxi is apparently more comfortable than a bus, although more expensive, and still not fun). The road is maintained by Thai Airlines which coincidentally holds a monopoly as the only airline that flies from Siem Reap to Bangkok. The flight is said to be the most expensive flight in the world for that distance.

As much as I did not want to support the monopoly on principle, I took the flight in June (two months ago) since it was the wet season and I received about 50 dire warnings against taking the road during that time of the year.

However, my friend just took the Siem Reap-Bangkok road a few days ago and said it was hellish, but not as bad as she was expecting. She said she was packed in between two other people, so not slung around very much, but skidded quite a bit and had a terrible driver who kept her in fear much of the time.

Sorry I don't have better news, but on the brighter side, it sounds like you're having a very cool trip :)

  3. From Cambodia to Thailand:

By plane from Pnom Penh or Siem Reap to Bangkok, Price ~ $100 - 160 (depend on airline and booking time in advance) Air Asia is the cheapest but less kilos for luggage; travel time about 1 hour

By bus Siem Reap to Sa Kleo (Thailand) but I think it´s not the best way to Bangkok. I think the following route is better:

Phnom Penh - Sihanouk Ville (at the Gulf of Thailand) to Koh Kong (on Thai side Trat) and than straight to Pattaya or Bangkok

    Traveltimes and costs:

Phnom Penh - Sihanouk 3 hours $13  to $20 (Bus) or taxi $50

Sihanoukville Koh Kong 4 1/2 hours, $13-17 by bus, taxi $90 (no more ferry!)

Trat - Bangkok 265 Baht (not vip but similar quality), that´s less than $10. Time 5 hours to Bkk

If you go by plane make sure that you also have a plane ticket away from Thailand as they´ll check at the air port

From Thailand to Cambodia it is at least the same

    I hope I could help

    Greetings from Cambodia ;)
