Question:

Travel Cot advice needed...

I am going away in September, when my daughter will be 15 months, so was looking at buying her a travel cot but have just read on some websites that she is too big for it already. I have read that the travel cots can only be used up until 15kgs or when a child can stand unaided. As she is walking already would this be unsuitable?? What am I supposed to use?

  1. Aerobed makes a kids bed.  It comes with a soft mattress cover, an air pump that plugs in and a carrying bag.  The sides go up just a little bit to prevent any falls- although it's really low to the ground anyways.  I got mine on amazon.com

  2. Where did you read this???   My son used one when he was 18 months old and he started walking at 10 months.   The "wall" of the travel cot (we call it a portacrib here in the USA) was about up to his chin or somewhere around there.   The wall was still too high for him to climb over it.  He weighed about 13 kgs.   He was also at the 90 to 95th percentile for height.   He was a big baby.  Chances are that your 15 month old daughter will still be less than 15 kgs in September.

ETA:   I looked up some travel cots on the internet and the maximum weight I read was 18 kgs.    It sounds like you haven't bought a travel cot yet.    Take her with you when you go shopping for it and ask the sales clerk if she could stand in it so you have an idea how big she is in proportion to the cot.   If she really is too big (and she would have to be really big for her age for that to be the case) for it then I would get an inflatable mattress instead.

She won't be much taller in September.   That's one month from now.     I only placed my son in it when I knew he was really tired and wouldn't be crying for long before he was asleep.

  3. go to your local baby shop and ask in there for advice they are trained and will be able to help you on what is suitable for your daughter!

  4. use a playpen thats what we always used we had a cosco playpen that folds int a 3ft by 1ft rectangle box. and its safe they dont fall out.
