Question:

Travel Opinions - Vietnam vs Taiwan?

Which of these countries would be the most interesting, safe, and welcoming for a westerner to travel to? Also, budget is no problem (when in singapore we stayed at the ritz carlton there, but a more traditional, relaxing hotel environment might be welcomed in either of these countries)

All responses are greatly appreciated,

  1. I have never been to Taiwan. I recently spent 4 years in Viet Nam, living in Ha Noi and traveling all over the country. It is the safest country I have been in, anywhere, and I have been to more than 40 countries the last time I tried counting.

The people are extremely friendly, great food, really interesting culture, and well worth a visit.

No doubt Taiwan would be interesting too.

I guess it depends on what you want to do. Google can probably give you some guidance on that front.

  2. Taiwan if you want to go shopping, be in an urban area, maybe get some custom-made clothing. Vietnam, on the other hand, has a great deal of natural beauty, and interesting old temples. I don't think you need to worry about your safety or about people welcoming you in either place. But if you like the 4 star hotels, then Taiwain rather than Vietnam is the place to go.

  3. Both Taiwan and Vietnam will be interesting as both have its own beauty in it. But I could say Taiwan is better cause the people than can speak better English than Vietnam, it more diverse in both cultural and natural beauty and its pretty more safer than in Vietnam. As for budget, Vietnam is cheaper than Taiwan as why there are many Taiwanese visit Vietnam and say its cheap. For four star hotels like Singapore, I can say Taiwan can satisfy your craving for Singapore Standard and the pricing standard is almost on par with Singapore too. But both are relaxing, I can say.
