I'm so sad because I'm going away for a week to DR because my great-grandmother is dying and im leaving my guinea pigs here because i found out that they have to stay 30 days being checked when they come back to the country.

1)What should i leave in their cage for them to survive?

I have 96 OZ of hay, lots of pellets. lots of veggies, and fruit for them. so how should i leave it on their cage.

& the only person(cousin) that can care for them is leaving too.

  1. i think u can buy holiday feeders not sure just leave lots of food and 2 or mabe 3 bottle of water for them hay is good that much should be enough the veg and fruit may not be a good idea as they will rot unless they eat it all that day

  2. I suggest looking in the yellow pages or something for a pet sitter, it wouldn't be good to leave them alone, but if you do:

Fill up their water bowl to the top!

Give them lots of hay and guinea pig food, but NO veggies or fruit (they will go bad and when they do, it will make the guinea pigs sick)

Give them love when you get home :-)

  3. well i hope everything is ok for you to

  4. you really shouldn't leave the guinea pigs for a week. 1 or 2 days maybe but a week is far too long. what about their water supply??

ask a local pet store if they will take them until you get back,im sure they will. loads of people do it.

  5. If you leave them alone for 30 days with no care, they will die. I'm sorry to say but here are the reasons:

The poo in there cage will cause chemicals if it isn't cleaned, they will run out of FRESH water, if you leave fruit in there it will rot and that causes diseases. You'll get LOTS of bugs in there cage including lice, flies, cockroaches, and other gross ones.

I suggest giving it to a person you know, if you can, or if you can't, give it to a neighbor or something. And when you get back give them like 20 bucks or something.

    They WILL NOT survive alone.

    Good luck!

  6. fruits will root and make them sick...get hard food from a pet store and put alot in there bowl

  7. I know how you feel. In a week I'm going on vacation *yay* but I dont want to leave them (my 3 hamsters)! There are these feeders *looks like a big waterbottle* that you put food in to feed your dog or cat! How about you get one of those and fill it. More food will come down if they finish so it keeps feeding them! And get many huge water bottles! Put fresh bedding in and toys! I hope this helps!

    Or

Go on google and type in: Automatic feeders for pets!

    Or

This is what im talking about!

    Im sorry for yor loss!

  8. take them to a place where they look after you're pets while your away.

it might cost money but hey least you know you guinea pigs are being cared for.

  9. I suggest that you can get someone to look after your guinea pigs.  Maybe one of your friends???  But since you said that nobody can take care of them, I guess your only option is leaving them lots of food.  Maybe a holiday feeder???  It is a long time to leave guinea pigs, so if you use those rodent water bottles then maybe you can buy more than 1 and fill them to the very top.  And before you leave, you should clean out their cage.  Veggies and fruits will spoil so they are a no no.
