Hello,

I'm going to Munich this weekend, so do you have any recommendations for things to see, and places to go?

Also, I would be interested to hear abour good restaurants for the evening, and cafes to relax in during the day.

Thanks, for your help!

That are the most popular tourist places but I can´t serve with cafes and restaurants bacause I never was in Munich.

  2. The hofbrauhaus is a great place to eat.  The glockenspiel is close to there also. If you can handle it. there is a building that you can climb a very narrow set of stairs way up to the top and see the whole city. it is across from the glockenspiel, which is the center of town.  It is very tough climbing.

  3. I love Munich and miss it a lot.  By far my favorite city

There are lot of great places for food and dirnk in Munich.

For a coffe you could go to Kafe Golockenspiel, which is directly on Marienplatz (downtown across from the Glokenspiel Tourist magnet.  It is in the 2nd or 3rd story of the building so you will have to take an elevotor.  The view is good, but the coffee is expensive.

There are also many good cafe's along Leopoldstrasse between the U-bahn stops Gieselastrasse and Munchner Freiheit on the U6/U3, just north of downtown.

Directly on Odenzplatz (U3/U6) beneth the big yellow church, there is the SF Coffee Comapny.  It is not exactly Europen authentic, but the location is great for people watching.  Walk across the plaza to see the old Bavarian royal palace.  It has some cool courtyards and a cafe that is sometimes open.

Have a doner (prononced dooner).  It is like a Gyro sandwich with lamb meat, but Turkish istead of Greek.  There are stands and shops all over the city. My personal favorite is in the Ostbahnhof subway station U5 and S-bahn. Ask for the Schaffskase (sheep cheese)!

Nightlife in Munich is not as wild as other Europen cities.  One man's laid-back is another man's boring.... just a word of warning.  I loved it.

There is a fair selection of bars near the U/Bahn stop Universitat on the U6/U3.  Exit the station and head for the Schellingstrasse exit and head west up Schellingstrasse.  My personal favorite is Alt Zimple (Old Bulldog) on Amalianstrasse, north of schelling.

There are also bars on Munchner Freihet.

Down near Marienplatz there is a lot of good Bavarian food good for the tourist experience.  I do reccomend the Hofbrauhaus, but I suggest you have your beer and food in the Biergarden in the back.  I prefer it to the hall.

Also in the same part of town, there is the Weissesbrauhaus (White brew house) they have good food.  Paulaner im Tal also has good thick food and is across the way from Weissesbrauhaus.  May I suggest the Wildschwein, which is porkroast that is made of meat that is a cross-breed with domestic and wild pigs.

One Biergarden is a must.  Although it is tourist,  I like the Chinesische Turm (chineese tower) beer garden.  Take a cab directly there or the U-bahn to Universitat and head for the east side of Leopoldstrasse and continue east to Englischgarden once in the garden keep heading east and you will run ito the Biergarden.  Or simply ask someone.

    Hope this helps.

  4. If you're going for just a weekend, be sure to plan ahead and check which attractions are open.

MANY things in Munich are closed on Sundays.  More than you would think.

I agree with the users above that Marienplatz is not to be missed: The glockenspiel, rathaus cellar resturaunt, etc.

If you get a longer trip next time, consider a day trip to the Neuschwanstein castle, which is a few hours southeast of Munich.  Well worth the day it burns to go there.  We took the guesswork out of it and booked a fabulous tour to two castles (including Neuschwanstein) at www.viator.com.

    and museums: http://www.inside-munich.com/munich-muse...

If you like Bavarian food, I can recommend one of the many beer gardens/breweries. If you are lucky, weather is nice enough to sit outside.

Great Bavarian food is served at the Löwenbräukeller at Stiglmaierplatz or at the Paulaner in the Kaufingerstrasse (near Karlsplatz).

Don't ever go into Donisl at Marienplatz, it's the worst restaurant with the unfriendliest waiters I've ever been to.

The Rathauskeller behind/below the mayor's house is also a great place for Bavarian food.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the time in Munich!!!
