On my last trip I UPSed my equipment to the hotel so all I travelled with was a carry-on bag. Anyone else have any suggestions to make ski travel easy

  1. I just carry my stuff with me. I found it is cheaper to pay for extra baggage (if needed) than to ship my ski gear.  I've never had a problem with oversize luggage (so far), and I like the thought of knowing my gear will be there with me. The only time I've ever had to pay for extra baggage was on a return trip from Europe. I had a suitcase, my skibag, and a big-a$s Volkl gear bag. It cost me 20 Euros. Even at today's exchange rate that's about $29. How much would shipping be?

  2. I will drive if the ski resorts are within the drivable distance.

Otherwise, I will just rent the gears if I have to go by air.

  3. That's a great way to do it already. Just stay with your method.

  4. Andy, I know that you are a very avid skiier that has been doing it for a long time, so Im not gonna tell you what most will...to rent and try out some demos...stuff like that.  You know what equipment works for you already.  I always just tote my stuff through the airport.  I got a double ski bag this year, it fits my old Volkl G41's which are massive, and my newer Bandits which are pretty big too.  It is under the 50 pound limit, so I dont get charged for overweight baggage.  I just bought a big K2 gear bag that fits all my stuff...boots, helmet, pants, shell, and all my ski clothes.  It too stays under 50 pounds, and it is not too bad to carry both of them, all that stuff is on wheels nowdays.

What I would od if I were you...

You just found a good excuse to get some new gear.  Buy some new stuff at the mountain.  That way you only have to tote it one-way.

Do you ski at home?  Not sure where you are at.  If you ski the same mountain on a regular basis, you could always store some extra gear there if you think you will ski there the majority of the time.  Most places have seasonal locker rentals for this purpose.

Ive got an even better idea.  Lets both move back to the mountains, and we wont have to worry about this **** anymore.  What do you think?
