Question:

Travel Trailer Living?

Ok, so I'm graduating this year. I have no idea what I'm going to do, but I've decided to put off college for a year in order to same up money for tuition. So I've decided to buy a little trailer to live in as opposed to getting an apartment when I get out on my own.

Is this practical?

Are little trailers expensive? And how do you hook up electricity into a trailer and what about sewage? What would I need to know? Would renting an apartment be easier? And would it be strange for some random 18 year old girl to be living in a trailer park alone?

  1. I did exactly what you are talking about after graduation because I was not sure what I wanted to do with myself and it is very economical if you can find a good deal on a decent sized camper or travel trailer.  I looked around for awhile and got a very generously sized one for about 2500 - 3000 dollars which really isn't that much when compaired to rent over time, plus you can always resell it to recoup some of your money when you have no more need of it.  If you are in a rural area, there are many areas for campers where you can rent a space, usually yearly and it should include water, electric and sometimes sewage hookup.  Then rent on the lot differs from place to place, but around here it wasn't that much.  If you plan on doing this just research it first.  Then you will be able to choose the cheapest route.

  2. I would recommended a studio or an efficiency. They are smaller and cost less than an apartment. Also trailers can be very expensive. I would go with an apartment for now. Or stay with you parents, I am sure if you tell them your plans they would be willing to help you out.

  3. Travel trailers sound like a good idea until you find out how many hundreds of dollars per month you must pay to park them.  Once you do, you are usually in a neighborhood that leaves something to be desired.
