Question:

Travel/Volunteer Abroad Inexpensively?

I am a college student who just got my A.A. and before I transfer, I want to travel and volunteer abroad. However, I was wondering if anyone knew of any ways to do this without paying a fortune? I'd like to do it this fall if possible, for up to 3 months...but even with all the research I'm doing, I'm not coming up with much!

Peace Corps and U.N Volunteering is out, I don't meet the degree or age (25 +) requirements

No Churches around here are doing mission work or are doing it just for the summer

Please, no "volunteer in your hometown" I can do that anytime. I feel like right now is the opportunity to do that abroad.

  1. I know what you mean! I am about to get my associates next fall and I feel like now is a better time than ever to go abroad! And not to mention the extra $600 tax rebate why not, right? Well what I am doing next month is going to Costa Rica to study Spanish abroad. I am going for one month by myself and then my sister is meeting me up there to do a tour with me for 11 days. So I will be there for a month and a half and I leave in two weeks. I went through Amerispan.com because they have good prices and also give the option of getting college credit which is definitly a plus. They also have volunteer options that let you learn a language as well as volunteer. You should check it out.

  2. check out the red cross - looks like Iowa could use some help. they are still building houses in New Orleans.

www.clubdust.com does a couple of mission trips to Mexico - one in summer and one in winter.
