I don't have a laptop but I have a desktop computer and am planning to go to the US. Can I bring my desktop computer with me or just the parts even just the hard drive. I really need my files and had a good investment in upgrading the parts.

  1. to answer your question. it is not a good idea as it might break on a flight. as  you don't know how they handle the lugage or parcel or anything like that to go on the bottom of the plane. why dont you download all the information that you need the when you get down there you can ask the for the computer. makes more sense.

  2. You could, but considering how they treat luggage at airports, I'm not sure in what shape you would get it back!

    Better than taking your CU apart, why not buying an external hard disk? They're quite affordable nowadays with large capacities and are easy to carry... Then you could just plug it in in any PC once in the US.

    Do not forget to buy a (dual) converter as well!! US electricity runs on 110V instead of the european 220V;

  3. I had the same situation,

    Just don't take the case itself, it'd be pain in the ***, trust me. Take out motherboard, cooler, memory, video card, hard drive, etc from the case and put them in separate boxes. everythng should be fine.
