Travel after high school?

so in the fall i'll start my senior year in high school, after which i plan to go to college in boston for writing or maybe photojournalism.

I'm having some issues at home, feeling worthless and what not, and i want to get out. what do you think of taking the rest of the summer to go traveling (maybe paris) i could find some money and go backpacking for the rest of the summer and then start school again in the fall. my mom and dad would never go for it but **** them. am i really being that naive or is something like this possible? any stories of this happening or advice for me?

what about after graduating high school next year then starting college once i'm done traveling?

  1. Traveling is not out of the question.  You should examine your motives for going though.  Travel won't raise your self-worth and it won't fix problems at home.  Those problems will be waiting for you when you get back.

Traveling can, however, increase your feelings of confidence and make you more self-reliant.  You have to become more confident and self-reliant to navigate foreign cultures.  It will expose you to new cultures and other ways of doing things.  It may even make you miss home.

I don't see your age as an obstacle.  You should start college when scheduled (because believe me, the longer you push it off the harder it is to eventually start), but there's nothing keeping you from taking the summer to travel as long as you can still afford school when you get back.

Europeans often take a "gap year" between high school and college.  I waited until my junior year in college to travel.  I think this is fairly common for Americans; it's usually the age group that most study abroad programs target.

  2. a big trip like Europe you usually do after you graduate from college..................

your kind of young for the trip...............the world is a dangerous place.............

if you go, don't go alone.4 people at least...

  3. You are not too young to do this.  Travelling is awesome at any age.  There are plenty of safe ways to do it (such as contiki.com as I mentioned in your other question).  Travelling can make you feel GREAT about yourself,  it won't solve all your problems but if you go by yourself it will give you some nice time to contemplate what to do after that.  If you are 18 by this point, it's not your parents decision (although try not to p**s them off too much, you WILL have to come home afterwards).

Anyways have fun, like I said feel free to contact me through my Y/A! profile.
