Travel base for Europe ?

I planning on traveling through Europe for about 6 month during the next few years. I am looking for an inexpensive home base from which to travel. I prefer the Metz area. Any ideas? Do they have Mobile Homes parks in France or other types of inexpensive resident areas. What about camp grounds, can you rent for six months ?

  1. It is illegal to live or house someone in a mobile home. Anything without a foundation is not considered decent housing. They are for temporary/leisure use only on camp grounds and are actually quite expensive by the week.

    The Metz area is very cheap: 300 € to 400 € a month for a studio in Metz and 200 € to 300 € outside Metz. http://www.seloger.com/immobilier/locati...

Utilities are cheap too in France.

You can look into renting a room in someone's house as an even cheaper alternative.

In France you are not bound by a one-year lease like in the US, you only need to give the landlord a 3-month notice in order to leave (reduced to one month in cases of extreme hardship). If the place is furnished then the notice is only one month anyway.

  2. maybe, you can live by host for free during those six months, just moving from one to another every week and sometime spend sometime in hostel to have a rest. have a look here :
