Travel by train from Toronto to New-York?

I'm planning to go to New-York by train from Toronto.

Can someone tell me from their experience is it a good idea?How is the seats(Economy class)? Is it possible to sleep?

Is there any bars in the train? TV?

  1. My mom took the Amtrak from Toronto - NYC before.

    She told me there is no TV, but I believe there was food service.

    It's a bit of a long trip, but if you have something to keep you occupied (read, video games, laptop) you should be ok.

    Or, you can just sleep.


  2. I've taken Amtrak before. It's a fairly comfortable ride, but I've heard that passing the border in a train takes at least a couple of hours. There is a small selection of food and drinks, nothing too great.

    I wouldn't suggest it if you have other options available, but it can't be too bad.

  3. you could talk via rail or Amtrak from Toronto union station to new york  penn station

  4. Do yourself a favour and save for a plane ticket.

    The trip via train is brutal, I've done it.  It's like 13 hours while the plane takes all of 50 minutes.
