Travel from Bahrain to Dubai + GITEX Dubai 2008?

Question

I have been accepted to carry out a clerkship in Bahrain during October. I found this an opportunity to visit Dubai. What's the cheapest way to get there ? I checked some airline sites but the round flight would cost around $200-$250 which is too much for me !

Are there any cheaper flights ? Can I go by boat or train ? Are there any buses that link UAE to Saudi Arabia then Saudi Arabia to Bahrain?

I also noted that Dubai GITEX trade show will be held during the month. Do you think it is really worth visiting ? Can I visit it even if I am not an electronics professional (I am fond of computers and electronics but I am a medical intern) ?

Also, what's the weather like in both Dubai and Bahrain during October?

Dubai and Bahrain will be a little cool by October as it is nearing cool season. You can travel by Air Arabia (Bahrain-Sharjah). Sharjah is not that far from Dubai and you can find cabs easily. Rates vary by availability and timing but you can say around 90-200USD.  Another option is Bahrain Air (Bahrain-Dubai). Today's rates are at approx. 150USD.

You need to have a sponsor to be able to visit Dubai since they allow vis on-arrival services only to those with special designations and managers. You would not want to take buses too as it is a longer route and probably even more expensive than flying.

I don't recommend you coming by boat or a train. The best and cheapest way for you to come here is through air.

I don't recommend Air Arabia, because I checked their fares they reach up to 190 US dollars!

I say travel with Jazeera Airways, they are a kuwaiti budget airlines.

It will cost you around 53 BHD, 140 US dollars. Non stop from Bahrain to Dubai.

Because GITEX will attract many  IT savy people ;p and the more you book in advance the cheaper the fare will be. I say try different dates because their website is weird, it might show u some dates and then tell you that it is fully booked. So play around with the dates.

You don't have to be an electronics professional to visit GITEX. It is worth going to if you happen to be here. There many things that are worth doing and seeing in Dubai.

The weather here will start changing from warm to cool.. Not too cold though, perhaps only at night. But generally the weather is going to be pleasant not unbearable humidity and heat like it is now in the summer!

If you want to go to Dubai just for Gitex then don't bother because it is not worth it. Don't forget that you will have to spend more for local taxi transport, Entry ticket for Gitex and other personal expenses. Gitex is ok to visit if your already in Dubai or have a business that is Computer/IT/Telecom related. Otherwise there is nothing in Gitex that you can't find anywhere else.
