  1. a

  2. I used to live in Edinburgh and travel home to Enniskillen, Ireland, and it was a full day trip by train, boat and bus. It was the cheapest option at the time. now flights can be the cheaper option.

Achill island isn't the easiest place to get to. If you can get a cheap flight to Dublin then you can travel to Westport by train (Irish rail - http://www.irishrail.ie) or bus (Bus Eireann - http://www.buseireann.ie). The bus connection to Achill is probably also Bus Eireann.

If you fly into Belfast your options will be more limited because you won't have a train option and you would have to switch between Ulsterbus and Bus Eireann to get where you are going.

  3. The only direct flights with Ryanair, prob your cheapest airline, from Edinburgh to Ireland are Edinburgh-Dublin or Edinburgh-Shannon. You can get one way from 5pounds sometimes..

You could get a bus from one of those airports to a town in Mayo and then a connecting bus. According to the website for the island, its 4 hours from each airport on bus. Bus would be around 20euro return, check bus eireann site as mentioned above

Travel light if u don't want to pay much for the flights as ryanair have lotsa sneaky charges about the baggage etc, select check in online option if you only have hand luggage to avoid fee at airport and don't opt for insurance if u want cheapest possible.

  4. Is there no flights to Galway airport ?

Achill is one beautiful place breathtaking scenery its like taking a step back in time, make sure you visit Keem Bay

  5. there are flights to Galway with aer arann but they're a lot more expensive than ryan air and are in a propeller plane not a jet. Ryanair fly to shannon. and you can fly to knock airport from Glasgow.. Theres only about 40 mins to an hour of a journey from Glasgow to Edinburgh!!
