  1. Good answer by agnosia.. Being from the USA and living in Bogota, I think that davivienda is the best... it seems to work with every US card and will let you take more money out on your ATM card than any other bank. I have had crappy luck with Servi Bank and Banco de Bogota. Youll love Barraquilla.. the people and place are amazing.. and if you are single.. some fabulous women

  2. I don't know where is that country you are talking about (Columbia?), but I can tell you something about Colombia (with O).

Despite being a developing country we have all the amenities of modern life.  Be prepared to find highways, elevators, banks, internet services, satellite dishes and yes even ATMs.  Most of our banks don't have direct money tranfering services from USA but you can find a few branches of Citibank there, so if you have an account with them it should be pretty easy to go to any of those.

The use of credit cards is posible in almost every store, specially those cards that belong to VISA, Mastercad, Cirrus and Plus networks but make sure to have cash available for those that don't allow their use, emergencies or trips to the country side.   You can find ATMs almost everywhere just be sure to check if your card is accepted in a particular one.  Must be a printed logo of the network in the door or on the side.

When using an ATM follow this recommendations...don't go alone, be aware of suspicios people or activity around you, try to use them during the day in high traffic areas or inside malls and try no to bring too much atention towards you.    If any doubts use regular precautions and common sense.  They will give you the desired amount in local currency and your bank will bill you a small fee for every transaction.

I hope this information was useful, I wish you good luck and a nice trip to that beautiful country.
